Facade Performance Testing

With the growing complexity and variety of modern building envelopes, problems are experienced with the in-service performance of curtain wall systems. Typically, these problems are often the result of poor design, poor fabrication installation and lack of adequate quality control.

The evaluation of the performance in the pre-construction and construction phase is essential in order to avoid undesirable and costly problems during the service life of the building.

FACET provides On Site Field Performance Testing for Air Leakage, Water leakage and Structural Adequacy. We carry out air infiltration & exfiltration under static pressure conditions, water penetration under static pressure conditions and structural adequacy tests. The idea is to simulate weather conditions and see how the façade responds when installed in its actual environment. In order to carry out the tests, chambers are constructed on the inside of the building ( using timber joists and plywood), seal the chamber to the façade area to be tested, and then apply positive or negative air pressure in the chamber – simulation of wind.

All the tests are done in accordance with AAMA, ASTM, BS & CWCT Standards.

The advantage of On Site Performance test is that it is one of the important steps in quality management and control of installations. Conducting these tests identifies snags and failures, leading to remedial actions, avoiding costly and time consuming remedies during service life.
